Francis become more confident and compelling with private coaching

Case Study Summary

Francis, a writer in LA, came to coaching because his inner critic was running the show—making him second-guess every interaction and avoid situations he actually wanted to be part of. Through coaching, he learned how to shut that voice up, stack small wins, and handle conversations (and job interviews) like a pro.

His biggest flex?

Holding a killer hour-and-a-half convo at an Oscar party with a busy industry pro—something past Francis would’ve totally psyched himself out of.

Now, he’s more confident, more compelling, and actually enjoying social interactions instead of overthinking them. His verdict? Coaching was worth every penny, and Jeff’s ability to make social skills simple and actionable is rare.

First off, who are you and what do you do?

Absolutely, thank you Jeff for having me. I am Francis. I work and live in LA. I am a writer by passion and trade, currently working in copywriting and data analyzing.

What was the biggest reason you wanted coaching? What exactly did you hope to learn?

So I was really lacking a lot of confidence in my social interactions, getting very self-critical and a little paranoid about what I thought people thought about me, and really letting these things kind of control my confidence in social situations, so much so that I started avoiding situations I knew I would have really enjoyed.

So I wanted to learn how to handle that inner critic and to kind of reestablish my social confidence.

What would you say is the most important thing that you learned with coaching?

I mean learning how to really hone in on like repetitive victories and the small victories and building my confidence through that. The interview skills or like preparing for interviews have been extremely helpful.

I mean with the job market being what it is, I had to do a few interviews in my time, and ultimately the tactics that you taught me, such as preparing for the meetings and really practicing answers to questions that might come up—general questions that might come up—and how to pitch myself really improved my interview skills and experience tenfold.

Yeah, being able to have answers to common questions could be in a job interview, but it could also just be common questions that people are going to ask you about you. Having something prepared that decreases the amount of brain power that your brain is using is super helpful.

Talk a little bit about how life is different after coaching, what sort of wins can you share with us?

Well, I mean, I am more confident.

I feel more compelling.

I feel like I can hold a conversation with a lot more self-assurance and understanding that every conversation, even the most minute little interactions, can be a victory, can be a success and something that I can count towards my overall success for the day. I think that has helped a lot in terms of just really helping me get through situations.

I think most recently there was an Oscar party that I went to where I was seeking to connect with someone who I had kind of been having trouble nailing down. He just had a lot of things going on and was very busy. But I was able to really kind of chat with him for a good hour and a half about film preservation, which is what his job entails.

That was something I wouldn't have had the confidence to do three months before in terms of just trying to hold his attention for that long, even after knowing that he's busy and might not initially have time for me or something like that. So yeah, I'm glad that he made the victory.

Awesome. I love it!

What would you tell someone who is considering getting coaching from me?

I would tell them that you are worth every penny. You are a very kind and patient teacher who is more than willing to walk through even the most basic steps in order to help his students understand where to find victory and where to find confidence in a conversation. And I think that is something that is very hard to come by in these days.

I appreciate that.

Like I told you earlier, you did the work. I just lit the path for you. And seeing you get to the level that you're at and seeing the wins that you've had and the successes that you've had makes my job worthwhile because I like to see my clients win, and you've been doing a lot of winning.

Well, I certainly appreciate that. I definitely would not have been able to find the path without you.

Thank you very much, Francis, for hopping on this case study. I really appreciate it.

Of course. Thank you for having me, Jeff.
