YOU ARE...

THE RELATOR

Based on your answers, you are The Relator.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RELATOR:

Relators are warm, empathetic, nurturing individuals who value interpersonal relationships above all other things.

Relators are very loyal employees, devoted friends, and excellent team players.

Peacemakers by nature, often avoid conflicts and confrontations.

They are also ideal team players since they are always willing to build networks and share responsibilities.

Relators are thorough planners and highly risk-averse. They value reliability, balance, and sincerity.

HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH A RELATOR:

‍

  • Be patient and show sincere interest in them as a person.
  • Build a relationship and learn more about their personal lives before getting down to business.
  • Reduce their fears by clearly explaining how a certain change will benefit them and those around them.
  • Be predictable and follow through with your stated promises.
  • Be warm and inviting. Focus on their feelings.
  • Don't ever push them into a corner to get what you need.
HOW TO COMMUNICATE AS A RELATOR:

‍

  • Know that others may not be able to go as deep as fast as you can. Give people a little time to warm up to you.
  • You tend to be skilled at speaking with emotion. (This is great!) Be sure to balance this by including data or pros and cons for people who aren't emotion-first communicators.
  • Use your knack for connection to "warm-up" a meeting before getting down to business.
  • Schedule and seek out social experiences where you can go deep with people!
SPECIFIC PEOPLE SKILLS TO WORK ON FOR A RELATOR:

‍

  • Avoid powerless words/phrases. "Just" "Sorry" "Does that make sense?" Relators tend to be deferential. Avoid watering down your message.
  • Assertiveness. Don't let other people's needs bury your needs!
  • Powerful body language. Taking up space and being intentional about your body language will help you appear more socially confident.
  • Propose solutions instead of asking. Flex your leadership muscle by presenting options instead of asking.
  • Take action rapidly. Learn a little, then act. Don't get stuck weighing pros and cons.

‍

‍

I LOVE working with Relators!

‍

Typically Relators have a great, empathetic foundation to start from, they need my help in navigating more complex people skill issues. (Career politics, difficult conversations, being assertive, etc.)

‍

My private coaching clients are typically technically skilled, and that's helped them play at a high level. But they realize that just being technically skilled is not enough.

‍

They have bigger ambitions for their lives and careers.

‍

They know that the next step in both their personal and professional lives is to work on their people skills and charisma so that they can 10x their results.
